These are not tourist retreats.

While The Living Abroad Experience is a fascinating and stimulating experience, our goal is not to create tourist itineraries for our attendees. Instead we offer an opportunity to think and live like a local in a foreign country. We provide a curated schedule of informational sessions with experts and expats, along with some fun learning excursions with your cohorts.

However, we don’t have a plan for every hour you’re with us. We will guide you when needed, but we won’t hold your hand. You will be challenged to navigate the daily stress of accomplishing tasks in a foreign country where many things are written and done differently. We will encourage you to go out on your own during the free time (and sometimes with a fun and challenging assignment). You will have free time for your own exploration.

We also expect some participants will need to work remotely during US hours, so we’ve scheduled our weekday activities and informational sessions to be done by 2pm CET, allowing everyone to access the beginning of the U.S. workday.

For professionals seeking to work for U.S. companies while abroad, we encourage you to plan to work at least a few days during the experience. This will offer you the chance to experience working across the time zones while managing a life outside of work (there are advantages and drawbacks).

These are not Zoom classes, websites, or Facebook groups, but lived experiences.

Our purpose at The Living Abroad Academy is to help you better understand your wants and needs and whether you’re ready to take such a life-changing leap. Our offerings are an onsite, all sensory experience with built-in challenges meant to test you in ways that only happen “after the honeymoon”.

Expat Facebook groups are filled with people who made the leap without really understanding what they were signing up for or discovering they picked the wrong culture for their personality or long-term needs. We help you avoid “buyer’s remorse” by covering all the angles and guiding you through a process that brings you to a truly informed decision.

Whether you decide to move to the country where you have your LAA Experience or not, you will walk away with a high confidence about your decision and a deeper understanding of the information you need to make that decision. And because of this lived experience, you’ll be prepared to explore other potential countries on your own with the same confidence.

Save your spot for our 2025 Living Abroad Experiences!

We have a limited number of spots for each LAA experience. Save your spot now with a $150 deposit. This is fully refundable until March 2025. Accommodations are not included, but we will have neighborhood information to share soon so you can book early and near our event space.
